Kahaluu Beach Park in Kailua-Kona will remain closed until further notice, the county Department of Parks and Recreation announced Monday.

Sewage from park restrooms was found from a broken sewer cleanout, according to a statement from the Parks Department.

The park was closed soon after the discovery Friday and clean-up work began. The state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch was notified and warning signs were posted.

The break was repaired Friday and condition of the pipes was being assessed Monday “to determine if further repairs are needed.”

An “abundance of caution” was exercised to be sure repair work is done and water quality safe.
